Recipes for Dutch Snacks and Starters

The Dutch are fond of snacks, particularly borrelhapjes. These are small portions of things such as cheese and meats or croquettes and Indonesian spring rolls, often served in bars and eaten with an (alcoholic) drink. Starters are also popular, and can be hot or cold.

Poffertjes are tiny versions of normal pancakes. They make a tasty dessert served with icing sugar, or can be eaten as a filling snack.
  
Sausage Rolls: Saucijzenbroodjes
Often sold at bakeries and train stations to eat on the go, these sausage rolls are easy to make yourself. Eat warm as a snack or for brunch.
          
A staple on the menu in Dutch bars and cafés, toasted sandwiches are a popular snack or light meal. Choose the kind of bread you want to use, select a filling and start toasting.
